Event Details
North Country Community Mental Health (NCCMH) is sponsoring the (9th annual) Autism Acceptance Walk for all individuals with Autism, family, friends, and the community.
The walk will be about a half mile in length. There will be drawings for great prizes and fun activities for families. Whether you have a personal connection to autism or simply want to be part of a compassionate community, this event is for you. Come together with friends, family, and fellow advocates to make a positive impact.
We walk to support one another, to celebrate those who are on the spectrum and those who live with or love someone with Autism. We walk to increase awareness and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and promote inclusivity.
Cost is $10. Participants may register in advance HERE or contact Christine Dillon at (231) 347-9605, ext 3606 or cdillon@norcocmh.org for more information. Please register by April 3 to receive a t-shirt. Individuals who would like to participate but not receive a t-shirt may do so to support the Autism community and may provide a donation if they like. On-site registration begins at 9:00 a.m.

Event Details
Help us restore and protect the sensitive dune ecosystem of Maple Bay! This popular beach destination provides habitat for rare native species, and we need your help to keep the dune healthy. Come on out to help us install fencing on the dune to guide human use and limit the trampling of these special plants.
The Basics:
GTRLC will supply gloves, tools, and water. Our team will teach you everything you need to know about tool use, safety, and fence installation. No prior experience is necessary – just come ready to learn something new! Be sure to sign in at registration when you arrive. This activity is moderately strenuous, with volunteers often bending and kneeling to install fencing. It will be about a mile hike to get to our worksite. A porta john is available for use at the trailhead of this property.
The Conservancy follows state, federal and CDC guidelines for COVID-19 and may modify or cancel this event at any time. Do not participate in any activity if you were recently exposed (within 10 days) to someone with COVID-19 or have recently (within 10 days) been diagnosed with COVID-19.
What we recommend bringing:
- Dress for the weather! Always check the forecast in advance
- Sturdy, closed-toe shoes that can handle some mud
- a reusable water bottle and some snacks
- Sunscreen and bug spray for your safety and comfort
- A pair of work gloves
Location: Please meet us at the trailhead of Maple Bay Natural Area.
Registration is appreciated but is not required. Cancellations due to weather, changing COVID-19 restrictions, or any other reason will be communicated with registered participants via email.
Thank you for your interest in joining us! If you have any questions, please contact Erica DesJardins at edesjardins@gtrlc.org or 231-929-7911 (ext. 316).

Event Details
If you love goats and hate invasive plant species, consider helping us care for our goat herd at Mitchell Creek Meadows Nature Preserve! Volunteers will learn everything they need to know to effectively monitor our goats’ health. By the end of the training, you will understand:
- How to operate the mobile electric fence
- Key signs/indicators of goat health and how to respond to any issues
- Essential supplies for the goats and when they are needed
- How to report your hours
The Conservancy follows state, federal and CDC guidelines for COVID-19 and may modify or cancel this event at any time. Do not participate in any activity if you were recently exposed (within 10 days) to someone with COVID-19 or have recently (within 10 days) been diagnosed with COVID-19.
What should I bring?

Event Details
Come out to help plant native plugs at GTRLC’s Mitchell Creek Meadows Nature Preserve! Volunteers will learn about and take an active part in the Conservancy’s ongoing habitat restoration project by assisting with planting plugs grown in our very own greenhouse.
The Basics:
GTRLC will supply tools and water. We will teach you everything you need to know about how to properly handle and plant plugs in the ground. No prior experience is necessary! This is a moderately light, family-friendly activity, though volunteers should be prepared for digging and kneeling. Bathrooms and drinking water are both available on site.
What will volunteers be doing:
- Learning about our ongoing restoration and greenhouse projects
- Digging and dibble bar usage
- Removing and handling native plugs from their containers
What should I bring?
- Dress for the weather! Always check the forecast in advance
- Sturdy, closed-toe shoes that can handle some mud
- Bring a reusable water bottle and some snacks
- Sunscreen and bug spray for your safety and comfort

Come meet a LIVE bird of prey!
Join us for some free feathered fun for the whole family on Thursday May 16th, from 6pm to 8pm at Silver Spruce Brewing on 8th Street as they host our second annual Spring “Flight” silent auction supporting North Sky Raptor Sanctuary of Interlochen Mi.
The event will host dozens of items up for auction from over 30 local vendors, entertainment venues, crafters, shops, and restaurants, with 100% of the proceeds supporting North Sky Raptor Sanctuary’s injured wildlife rehabilitation budget for 2024 (www.northskyraptor.org)
Alongside the auction (one of our primary sources of funds last year for our rescue/rehabilitation efforts) we will also be featuring multiple presentations with our LIVE raptor ambassador birds of prey throughout the evening!
And, of course, Silver Spruce offers many excellent food and drink options to partake of as you peruse the various items up for bid!
Thank you to everyone who donated to the cause, and thank YOU for joining us!

Event Details
The Stroll for Epilepsy™ is an inspirational event that unites the epilepsy community across the state to fight the challenges of living with epilepsy including stigma, SUDEP, misdiagnosis, treatment gaps, loss of employment, discrimination, and isolation. As the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan’s largest fundraising event, the Stroll for Epilepsy™ increases awareness and provides vital support in the fight against epilepsy.
Participants are invited to join us on this one-mile leisurely walk, and participate in other activities and event fun. This year, the Traverse City Stroll for Epilepsy™ will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 10:00am at Civic Center Park.
We are excited to gather in-person this year, but those who cannot attend in-person can still participate virtually. All Strollers will have the opportunity to hear personal stories of those affected by epilepsy, fundraise, earn prizes, and make a difference in the lives of those living with epilepsy!
The Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan leads the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives. Funds raised through the Stroll for Epilepsy™ will benefit the Foundation’s state-wide initiatives, making it possible for the Foundation to train school personnel on seizure first aid, host educational conferences, provide guidance and understanding to individuals affected by epilepsy through the Here for You Helpline, and more!
Pre-Registration for the Traverse City Stroll for Epilepsy™ is available until May 15 at 11:59PM. Day-of registration is available for In-Person Strollers who miss the deadline for an additional fee.
Pre-Registration Fees –
Virtual & In-Person Adult Strollers (Ages 12 ) – $30
Virtual & In-Person Child Strollers (Ages 2 -11) – $20
