Looking through the lakefront windows at Mission Point Resort, kayakers paddle the shoreline as a freighter makes it way toward the Straits of Mackinac. A laughing couple is out for a morning walk and families are biking. It’s a beautiful morning on the island.

Inside the Mackinac Island resort, guests and visitors are waking up for breakfast and enjoying the newly renovated Marketplace. The Marketplace is home to two shops and a cafe for the resort’s guests and the public.

Take a tour of the Marketplace at Mission Point Resort in this MyNorth video.

Boxwood Coffeehouse & Cafe is one of the three new additions at Mission Point. Offering homemade pastries including cinnamon rolls and blueberry crumble muffins along with espresso drinks and a variety of teas—white peony and blueberry rooibos are just a few of the flavors on the menu—the airy lakeside cafe is a perfect spot for breakfast or an afternoon snack while biking M-185 around the island. A window-side bar provides views of Lake Huron, though guests may also eat on an outdoor patio with shaded seating.

The Boutique offers well-known, upscale apparel brands such as Dubarry of Ireland, Filson, Lacoste and Saint James. The store also carries a mix of luxury gifts, jewelry, art and books.

Next door, Garden Gate sells gifts and souvenirs for all ages. Local Mackinac Island artist Mary Lou Peters is featured in Garden Gate along with soaps from Handmade on Mackinac, kites from Great Turtle Toys and artist Karyn Burns’ new piece, “The ABC’s of Mackinac.” Visitors will also find apparel, toys and daily newspapers. Lawn games like bocce ball, croquet, lawn darts and others are available for rent.

A wine tasting room, Reserve, will have its soft opening at the Marketplace in September. Reserve will serve charcuterie, champagne and old world wines in an intimate setting with only 12 seats. Reserve will fully open in May 2017.

“Today’s affluent travelers, in particular, are looking for wonderful experiences that are predicated on a celebration of place and experience,” says Mission Point Managing Director Bradley McCallum.

Mission Point Resort guests and non-guests may also enjoy the new Lakeside Spa & Salon. The premier spa, which opened in June, is run by a team from Vogue Salon in Petoskey. It has a full-service salon and multiple spa treatment rooms including a couples treatment room, separate his and hers saunas, steam rooms, a relaxation room and more. For a Northern Michigan twist, try the Great Lakes stone massage and lilac facial and body treatment.

“Notice the decor,” Bradley says. “It’s simple but well executed, high quality and pure. That’s guiding our approach.”

See the decor for yourself in this MyNorth video of the Lakeside Spa & Salon.
