POSITION SUMMARY

The Nursing Transition to Practice Manager (TPM) collaborates with the Director of Nurse Professional Practice, Clinical Education, and the Nursing Leadership team to support the transition of new licensed registered nurses (NLRN) from the student role to the professional nurse role. The nursing TPM guides nurse residency education sessions, provides clinical support to nurse residents, serves as a nurse expert, and guides the residents' clinical challenge and professional development project efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides guidance and supervision of Colleagues accountable to the nurse manager. Oversees staffing, and scheduling considering scope of practice, competencies, patient needs, and complexity of care.

  • Provides appropriate orientation for new staff and gives individual feedback on staff development and progress. Evaluates Colleague performance in a fair and transparent manner.

  • Develops, implements, and monitors the budget for defined area of responsibility.

  • Participates in and involves nursing staff in evaluative research activities to promote evidence-based practice.

  • Encourages shared accountability for professional practice.

  • Provides an open forum of communication with staff, allowing them ample opportunities.

  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills including: critical thinking, problem solving, goal setting, decision-making, delegation, strategic planning, project management, coaching and mentoring.

  • Provides ongoing development, coordination, and management support of nurse residency program.

  • Provides clinical oversight to nurse residents throughout the residency program to support continuity of clinical assignments, the progression of clinical competency, update CBLs, ensure appropriate documentation, share clinical knowledge and assist in the development of clinical decision making skills.

  • Communicates effectively with residents, preceptors, managers and other team members to facilitate identification and resolution of clinical issues or program element opportunities.

  • Works collaboratively with all roles to ensure program remains dynamic and updated, with residency program development reflecting current and innovative best practices related to nurse residents.

  • Coordinates post-orientation monthly progress meeting with Unit Manager.

  • Schedules and coordinates monthly residency didactic curriculum, provides simulation experiences, and clinical skill labs.

  • Supports the identification, development, and implementation of a nurse resident Clinical Challenge project.

  • Supports the development of nurse residency Professional Development Plan.

  • Assists in the coordination of Nurse Residency graduation celebration.

  • Facilitates program data collection and outcomes tracking as appropriate.

  • Monitors clinical and patient satisfaction outcomes related to Nurse Residency contributions.

  • Mentors and develops preceptors by offering ongoing learning workshops.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Master's degree in Nursing.

  • Five (5) years clinical experience

  • Two(2) years leadership experience.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  • Master's degree in Clinical Nurse Leadership (CNL).
