Behavioral Hlth Counselor-on-call

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Masters degree in human services field required. MSW, CNS, or MA in psychology counseling preferred with 3 years of 6000 hours related work experience. Minimum 2 years mental health experience (Dual Diagnosis). ICRC-certified or certifiable chemical dependency counselor and/or licensed (Dual Diagnosis preferred). Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in chemical dependency treatment concepts and applications, including AA/NA Steps and Traditions. Personal experience in a recovery program desired, but not required. (Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center only).

ORGANIZATION

Reports to the Manager of the Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center.

Reports to the Manager of the Mental Health Unit and Clinical Coordinator of the Partial Hospitlization Program (Dual Diagnosis).

 No clinical contact with patients 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  1. Supports the mission statement of MMC: Supports the mission statement of MMC; Munson Healthcare and its partner's work together to provide superior quality care and to promote community health.

  3. Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.

  4. Acknowledges that safety is a self-responsibility. Knows the physical requirements of the job and work within those guidelines. Performs job duties safely at all times, utilizing learned body mechanics and transferring/lifting techniques. Plans actions to promote safety. Reports any unsafe situation/equipment according to Hospital procedure.

  5. Provides individualized treatment to patients and their families through assessment, diagnosis, planning, education, intervention, discharge planning and evaluation of outcomes.

  6. Conducts didactic group and individual sessions.

  7. Demonstrates competency through the annual competency assessment, 7/3/06, customer evaluation, clinical staff dialogue, performance appraisals and staff education.

  8. Documents application of the treatment process focusing on outcome criteria in accordance with hospital, departmental and regulatory agency requirements.

  9. Communicates with other members of the health care team through case reviews to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.

  10. Identifies quality improvement needs and participates in implementing improvements.

  11. Conducts ongoing in-service and orientation training for hospital staff and the community.

  12. Maintains effective communications with patients, families, team members and managers as evidenced by mutual support, open communication, trust and support.

  13. Promotes good public relations with department personnel, physicians, other referral sources, patients, families and the community.

  14. Assumes responsibility for continuing education and professional development by attending required in-services and other means of continuing professional education (e.g., readings, classes, workshops).

  15. Adheres to all hospital and department policies.

  16. Keeps manager and physician informed of activities, decisions and changes in patients' treatment and/or progress.

  17. Leads team in multidisciplinary clinical problem-solving. Includes staff clinical supervision, conducting case conferences, staff meetings and other meetings as necessary.

  18. Coaches clinical staff to perform their responsibilities with efficiency and compassion through leading by example.

  19. Provides the Manager with input regarding competencies and annual discussions, and assists with implementation of hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

  20. Performs other duties as assigned.
