Winter Fruit Compote

Mary Sturtz of Traverse City makes a batch of this compote to serve stirred into oatmeal with a splash of cream.


  • 1/3 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/3 cup dried cherries
  • 1/3 cup raisins
  • 1/3 cup chopped dried apricots
  • 1/3 cup chopped fresh or dried mangoes
  • 1/3 cup chopped dried or fresh Gala apples
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar, to taste


Fill a pot with fruit and enough water to cover. Add a 1/4 to a 1/2 cup of sugar according to your taste. Bring to a boil, simmer for 30 to 45 minutes, or until fruit is tender. Drain and cool. Store for a week.
