POSITION TITLE: Offsite Services Representative II/Certified Phlebotomist

High school graduate. Two years of experience as an Offsite Services Representative required. Full Time employment required. Completion of medical terminology course also required. Must score 95% or more on PAR test. Applicants must be proficient in MS Word with knowledge of Windows based applications and possess a proven ability to effectively use multiple computer systems and be able to pass a typing test of at least 45 net words per minute. Proven ability to communicate effectively with both public and coworkers orally and in writing, and the ability to work positively with all levels of clinical staff. Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT - 4 coding systems desired. Assertiveness, organizational skills, effective time management, flexibility and self-motivation are essential. Human relations and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to perform general clerical duties such as filing, faxing, data collection, type written correspondence, etc., is required. Works in a well lighted, air conditioned office setting. Walks and stands most of the time while on duty as well as sitting. May be subject to elements of time pressure and interruptions of activities. May be asked to alter schedule to meet customer needs. Must be able to meet the physical demands such as bending, stretching, kneeling, twisting, etc. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
Minimum of 18 months experience with Munson Phlebotomy team or similar experience
Has not been in corrective action step 2 or 3 in the last rolling 24 months.
National ASCP Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) or equivalent certification acceptable.
*Will work primarily at Interlochen and Benzonia locations but may work at any POMH Location*
ORGANIZATION Reports to the Manager of Patient Access Services and the Laboratory Manager. May receive instruction from Medical Technologists and other Certified Phlebotomists.

- Specific Duties
Central Scheduling Component:
Schedules POMH specialty clinic appointments, Radiology, OR, and Cardiopulmonary patients for appointments/procedures. Serves as liaison to schedule appointments with other specialty providers in the region.
Scheduling: Tempus One Uses software to schedule various appointments that don't require clinical intervention. This includes, but is not limited to, Non-interventional Radiology, misc. therapies, procedures, and clinic appointments.
Recognizes the fact that he/she is our primary contact with outpatients and, therefore, is responsible for the first impression the patient has with our laboratory.
Smiles, remains pleasant, and empathizes with the patient.
Works frequently under stress due to multiple emergent and timed blood testing requests.
Remains calm and efficiently follows proper procedure in stressful and/or emergent situations.
May need to stand for long periods of time throughout the day. May need to kneel beside or bend over supine patient to facilitate sample collection.
Activities are controlled by defined procedures and predetermined schedules. However, the priority of work must be determined by the individual on a continual basis. The performance of work is subject to constant interruption and re-prioritization due to different emergent situations that frequently arise during the day.
Collects blood from patients according to established procedures and policies. Includes capillary punctures and venipuncture on infants and adults.
Collects throat swabs for microbiological testing.
Travels to other institutions (e.g. nursing homes, off-site clinics) to collect blood/pick-up specimens and/or deliver lab reports.
Uses computer as related to specimen collection, specimen flow, and specimen referral.
Performs and records near-patient laboratory testing procedures. May include instrument checks and quality control procedures.
Administers basic first aid to patients who have fainted during puncture procedures. Recognizes and requests emergency assistance when needed.
Keeps neat and maintains the specimen receiving areas, phlebotomy work-stations, outpatient drawing labs, ensures all supplies being used are not expired by routinely checking expiration dates and consistently checking all areas for expired supplies. Orders storeroom items, anticipates other supply needs. Informs laboratory inventory person of any supply needs.
Performs and records regular maintenance of refrigerators, freezers, and centrifuges.
Follows up on specimens that are misplaced or unsuitable for analysis. This may involve redrawing the patient, or calling the patient back to the laboratory.
Stays current with all work-related communications and subsequent assignments (email, required responses, etc.)
Assists in training of new laboratory employees. Teaches venipuncture, capillary punctures, and arterial punctures, and other work processes to recently hired laboratory aides, medical technologists, med tech students, nursing students, and emergency medical technicians.

It is a position that determines appropriate, trouble free billing of accounts to multiple insurance companies with varying requirements and regulations.
