Hiawatha National Forest – Au Train River Canoe Trail

Head out on this 10.5-mile point-to-point trail near Au Train, Michigan. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, you’ll find 10 miles of slow-moving river to explore, free of rapids and portages, making it a safe and fun experience. Watch for blue herons, kingfishers, muskrats and turtles along with walleye, perch, suckers and bullheads. And in fall, the salmon run takes an average of 4 h 15 min to complete. This trail is great for paddle sports, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are April through September. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.
