Doug Hill’s Bang Bang Shrimp

Doug Hill loves making this recipe at his Northern Michigan cottage, Hilly's Broken Prop Lodge Spicy and simple to make, Bang Bang Shrimp warms up a Northern night.


  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 teaspoons chili garlic sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 2-4 pounds raw shrimp, peeled
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • ½ cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon basil


Combine sauce ingredients and set aside. Mix egg and milk. Combine the next seven ingredients in wide bowl. Dip each shrimp in egg and milk, then dredge in flour mixture. Deep fry in hot oil. Drain on paper towel. Serve with sauce.
