Thirty thousand. That’s how many pounds of turkey House of Flavors prepares each year. The Ludington restaurant, opened in 1976, serves roasted turkey dinners with all the trimmings year-round, along with gravy-smothered sandwiches stacked tall with turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing.

Owner Barry Neal, the third generation of Neals to helm the beloved local dining spot, finds comfort in coming together for hearty fare. “We are serving generations of people who have been sharing meals here for years,” Neal says. “That’s what’s most important, who you share experiences with.”

Diners at House of Flavors are treated to delightful throwback décor with their turkey dinners: A record player spinning ’50s music, a shelf of Elvis memorabilia behind the ice cream counter, bright pink booths and black and white photos of former employees.

“I’m a bit of a collector by nature,” Neal says. “I think it ties us to what was important back then, when my grandfather founded House of Flavors, which was a sense of community, a sense of caring for each other. We use the word ‘sweet’ a lot, because, you know, I think that’s what we try and emulate, a sweeter time of life.”
