Inside this two-story, 4,400-square-foot LochenHeath home, a white oak and stainless stair system encased by floor-to-ceiling glass on two sides is what Mapleridge Project Manager Jim Petaja describes as a “glowing lantern of light.” It’s a significant highlight of this home (a custom sliding barn privacy door closes off the second floor from the glowing stair core) with beautiful views of the fairways in this community just east of Traverse City and overlooking East Grand Traverse Bay.

Another stand-out feature of the home: a “man cave” complete with a fireplace, built-ins, kitchen and pool table—a perfect place to stream movies or the big game. Each guest bedroom has its own private bathroom with custom showers, glass doors and tile work. The primary bath, meanwhile, features heated floors as well as a free-standing basin tub, cathedral ceiling and large walk-in shower. Mapleridge used maintenance-free CertainTeed shake siding and Restoration trims, and incorporated a cool “sun tube” giving light to a hidden second story office or playroom. A fabulous home entertaining touch: the large pantry and butler’s pantry feature direct access to a grilling porch.

NHC Home Tours Digital Exclusive: Host’s Highlight

No one knows all 8 homes better than this year’s host, Erin Lutke. We sat down with Erin to get the inside scoop on each and every home, and here we share some of her favorite moments when touring + a never-before-seen video snippet of the room or moment that she revealed. You can only find the 2022 Northern Home & Cottage Virtual Home Tour Host’s Highlights on MyNorth.com.

“Before touring this house, I didn’t know what a “stair core” was. After this tour, I was fully educated on the floor-to-ceiling glass stainless stair system that connects the two wings of the house. It was such a modern touch to an already-stunning classic home! Also, during the tour I learned the sweet homeowner and I shared a love of books- I’m pretty sure I have an invite to join her next book club!” – Erin Lutke
