Crystal Mountain‘s snowmaking team has been recognized as one of the best in North America. Going up against teams from Canada to Colorado, here’s how you can help them win the final and top honor of best snowmaking team overall.

This is an official press release brought to you by Crystal Mountain and MyNorth News Service.

Crystal Mountain’s snowmaking team has been recognized as one of the best in North America by Ski Area Management Magazine (SAM). And now it goes to a popular vote for the coveted I AM a Snowmaker contest.

Voting is open on the SAM website through January 21 at midnight. Winners are expected to be announced on January 24. Fans of snowmaking and Crystal Mountain can vote once every day while voting is open, and share the behind-the-scenes snowmaking video across all social media platforms.

Crystal Mountain is the first Michigan ski resort to ever be chosen as a finalist and the only one in the Midwest this year – and it’s well-deserved. Last winter, Benzie County received just 68 inches of fresh snowfall, one of the lowest amounts on record. To make up for Mother Nature, Crystal’s talented snowmaking team produced 647 million pounds of snow – that’s more than four and a half times the weight of the Mackinac Bridge – keeping the resort slopes open for skiing and riding for 108 days.

“We are very lucky to have such a dedicated group who are willing to work long nights, busy days and in brutally cold temperatures just to get the slopes open as much as possible,” Mike Cutler, director of Mountain Operations, said. “This is a great opportunity to highlight the hard work and camaraderie of our Crystal team.”

SAM magazine debuted the I AM a Snowmaker presented by HKD contest in 2014 to recognize the passion, grit and expertise of ski resort snowmaking teams. It has become a popular and compelling platform for ski resorts across the country to showcase their teams. Each resort created videos capturing this year’s I AM a Snowmaker theme: nature, people and purpose. The video with the most votes will walk away with the I AM a Snowmaker coveted title and a sweet prize.

“We received a record number of nominations this year representing snowmaking crews of all sizes from around the industry,” Sarah Wojcik with SAM Magazine said. “It was a deep field, but we chose seven crews to participate in the ‘I AM’ this year.”

The Crystal Mountain team is in esteemed company. Other finalists are Boler Mountain, Ontario, Canada; Camelback in Pennsylvania; Mountain High in California; Sugarbush Resort in Vermont; Sugarloaf in Maine and Vail in Colorado.
