From adoptions to community programs, taking care of animals who need it most is endlessly important. Here are your local Red Hot Best winning nonprofits who make it a priority to care for animals all across Northern Michigan.

A record-breaking 16,000 people voted in MyNorth’s 2021 Red Hot Best Awards, recognizing winners from across seven regions and 46 different categories in Northern Michigan. Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter

Located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, this local nonprofit is staffed by neighbors who are passionate about caring for homeless, unwanted, abandoned and abused domestic animals. The team works to get these pets into forever homes and are friendly and helpful through every step of the way.

Benzie & Leelanau Winner

Wings of Wonder

Located at 13035 S. Greenway Trail in Empire Wings of Wonder started as a raptor sanctuary and rehabilitation center. Led by Rebecca Lessard, Founder and internationally acclaimed raptor rehabilitator, the nonprofit is now focused on the growth of the first Tribal Eagle Aviary and Rehabilitation Center east of the Mississippi River.

Cadillac, Manistee & Ludington Winner

Mason County Mutts

Working to improve animal welfare in our community, Mason County Mutts is going above and beyond to rescue and foster animals. From food to education, this nonprofit aims to help as many local animals as possible through constantly furthering their efforts.

Charlevoix & The Chain of Lakes Winner

Help From My Friends

Located at 3820 Ritt road in Bellaire, Help From My Friends is working to give pets a start fresh and new family. They have a crisis center and provide services for pets ranging from newborn to geriatric. Now in 2021, they are working on moving into a new facility to provide more services and to be closer to those community members who need it most.

Kalkaska, Gaylord & Grayling Winners

Otsego County Animal Shelter

Located at 256 Fairview Rd. in Gaylord, Otsego Country Animal Shelter specializes in animal care and adoptions. The caring staff is helpful, facilities are clean and helping animals is at the center of everything they do.

Petoskey, Harbor Springs & The Straits Winner

Little Traverse Bay Humane Society

Located at 1300 W. Conway Rd. #9582 in Harbor Springs, Little Traverse Bay Humane Society offers everything from animal adoptions to grooming. The staff is dedicated to providing animals the tender, loving care and attention they need to become adoptable companions. They also offer daycare, boarding and more than 10 programs.

Traverse City Red Hot Best Winner

Cherryland Humane Society

Located at1750 Ahlberg Rd in Traverse City, Cherryland Humane Society provides provide a safe harbor for animals on their journey to finding a responsible, loving and permanent home. They also work to educate the public on humane values and offer everything from low-cost spaying and neutering to training classes.
