As the Traverse City beer scene continues to grow, so does the list of awards. Learn how our Northern Michigan community was named one of the top 10 small-town beer scenes in the country.

Craft beer brewers in Traverse City have been honored for excellence with their work by the readers of USA Today. Traverse City was selected as one of the ten best locations in the country for its “Small Town Beer Scene.” Traverse City placed seventh in the country after a four-week online vote by the publication.

“The brewers in the region are highly regarded,” says Trevor Tkach, president of Traverse City Tourism. “The craft beer scene is one of many draws to the region. We hear countless times from our visitors that after enjoying all that northern Michigan has to offer, a perfect cap to the day is enjoying a local brew with friends.”

A panel of beer experts from around the country was assembled by 10Best.Com and promoted by USA Today. The experts nominated 20 small towns that were well known for their local breweries. From that list, USA Today readers selected their top choices. The polling attracts considerable interest with an average of 5 million visitors per month.

Area brewers enjoyed the recognition. “That’s exciting that we’re a top ten city, “says Russell Springsteen from Right Brain Brewery. “We deserve it. We have several breweries that are making great beer.” At the same time, Springsteen says he views the voting as a challenge and if there is a follow-up to the contest he wants to land in the number one slot. “We have the breweries to do this.”

The top slot in the voting went to Avondale Esates, Georgia. A suburb of Atlanta, Avondale Estates has a population of just over 3,000 people. Full results are available at https://www.10best.com/.
