Northwoods Hardware in Glen Arbor is collecting donations to buy face shields for Munson Healthcare. Read on for how to help.

Northwoods Hardware has a supplier who has modified their production line to produce face shields that meet Johns Hopkins Medical School and Munson specifications. Face shields are an essential part of the PPE required in hospitals, however, there is a nation-wide shortage, and there is a critical need for them at Munson Healthcare.

Together, Jeff and Georgia Gietzen, owners of Northwoods Hardware, and Scott and Ellen Gravelie, Munson Hospital Foundation Board Member, have committed to donating a half pallet (1,320 face shields) to Munson Healthcare.

The Gietzen and the Gravelie families are inviting community members to make a donation in any amount to help raise enough funds to get a full pallet (2,640 face shields)—or more. Together, in a small way, we can make a big difference! Let’s show our local healthcare workers how much we appreciate them.

The Face Shield v2.69, being produced by Woodchuck USA, was developed in an effort to conserve N95 face masks. If worn appropriately, the shield can be worn, wiped down and reused.

How many Face Shields can we donate together? A donation of $30 buys 10 shields; $75 gets 25 shields; $150 gets 50 shields; $300 gets 100 shields; $1,500 gets 500 shields; and $7,929 buys one pallet or 2,640 shields.

All donations are welcomed. Make donations by check. Checks payable to Northwoods Hardware with a memo: Leelanau PPE Response. Please mail your donation to Northwoods Hardware Home & Garden, PO Box 260 Glen Arbor, Michigan 49636. You will receive a letter from Munson Hospital Foundation to document your generous, deductible support.
