A sleek new retail shop in Suttons Bay will showcase handmade jewelry, art and home decor, and a studio will serve as a creative meeting place to learn, create and collaborate.

Moraine Shop & Studio, located at 412 N. St. Joseph St. in Suttons Bay, will celebrate its grand opening on August 3. Moraine Shop features jewelry, art and objects made by independent artisans and makers curated by Kelsey McQuown and Melani Wilson —both Leland residents. The adjacent Moraine Studio will soon host public and private workshops, events and classes taught by artists in a variety of different mediums.

“Moraine Shop & Studio will be a place to showcase unique and lovingly crafted jewelry and goods,” McQuown says. “It will also serve as a creative meeting place for the community—a place to come together to learn, create, collaborate and celebrate the incredible talent of artists and makers.”

The opening of Moraine Shop & Studio coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Suttons Bay Art Festival, the event where McQuown and Wilson first met in 2018. It was at this meeting where they bonded over their appreciation of handmade goods and began discussing their shared desire to open a retail store on the Leelanau Peninsula.
