What’s your connection to Northern Michigan?
I was born and raised in Michigan. My family and I, both my parents, as well as my husband and children, have been traveling to Northern Michigan all of my life for vacations, special getaways, and to see the natural beauty this great state has to offer.
What are your favorite things to do Up North?
My two favorite things to do are camp and visit local wineries. Camping in Northern Michigan is a sight to behold. Between the forest, beaches, and dunes scattered throughout, each trip is special in its own way. Northern Michigan has countless wineries that we love to visit and experience new tastes, incredible views, and great times with family and friends.
Ironically one of my favorite places to go is Blustone Winery in Leelanau. They are named after this special and beautiful stone so that will be one of my first visits after receiving this wonderful gift!

When it comes to shopping I like to visit and peruse the various locally owned shops throughout Northern Michigan. I love finding unique and special treasures to take home to remind us of our trips.

What’s your connection to Northern Michigan?
We just recently discovered Northern Michigan the past few years when our middle son was playing college baseball in Lima, OH for the University of Northwestern Ohio. We traveled many times to the Grand Rapids area to watch him play at Davenport, Concordia, Cornerstone, and Aquinas. So we spent several weekends doing some extra exploring in our spare time looking for future vacation spots. We love the area and are excited about the opportunity to return with our whole family.
What are your favorite things to do Up North?
My wife and I love the outdoors and like to bike, hike trails, and take river canoe trips. We would also like to spend some time at Sleeping Bear Dunes. We love the Great Lakes. I only wish we lived closer than the 6-hour drive.

I really like the articles about Traverse City nightlife and outdoor activities in the area. It’s always a good read.

Our family’s Up North adventures began in the early 1970’s, vacationing at Arbutus Lake south of Traverse City. We continue to enjoy Up North with the next generation at amazing Torch Lake!

It’s a long list of favorites Up North! Golf at A-Ga-Ming, TC Beach Bums, downtown TC and State Theatre, Bier Art Gallery, downtown Elk Rapids with eats at Siren Hall and Cellar 152, Cherry Republic, Don’s Drive-in, Dennos Museum, skiing at Boyne Highlands, downtown Charlevoix and the Earl Young stone cottages, and kayaking and boating on Torch Lake.

I have lived in Lake Ann since 1982 and moved here because of it’s proximity to EVERYTHING!
What are your favorite things to do Up North?
My favorite things to do vary season by season, but twice a year I like to go with girlfriends and rent a condo at Crystal Mountain for a spa vacation! Kayaking and water activities in the summer, hiking and biking in the fall and snowshoeing in the winter!
