Mission Table, that bastion of hip, Northern-dining hospitality on the Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City, generously lent us this recipe for June-in-Northern Michigan on ice—their strawberry rhubarb mojito. (Move over mint julep, the North did it again).

Strawberry Rhubarb Mojito Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce strawberry rhubarb simple syrup (directions below)
  • 1½ ounces Old Mission Rum
  • 6 mint leaves
  • ½ lime, quartered

Strawberry Rhubarb Simple Syrup

  • 4 cups local strawberries
  • 4 cups rhubarb
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in a large pot. Heat to boiling then simmer until strawberries and rhubarb soften to a mash. Strain mixture through a chinois and pour into a storage container.

Fill a large shaking glass with ice, add rum and strawberry rhubarb simple syrup, squeeze the lime juice in and add the lime. Bruise the mint in the palm of your hand and add into the shaker. Shake to incorporate the ingredients, then pour into a highball glass. Add sparkling water to fill.
