April 11: On the second Monday of the month from October through April, the League of Women Voters presents the event Big Picture featuring a thought-provoking film or documentary at the Old Art Building in Leland. This month, watch a searing story of love, war and remembrance, based on the First World War memoir by Vera Brittain.

April 12-25: The Selfie Project is a celebration of the age-old art of self-portrait made new. In the age of Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat and a camera on every device, we see “selfies” on a daily basis. The goal of the Selfie Project is to promote positive, age-appropriate, artistic self-expression for students and families in Charlevoix and Emmet Counties. Crooked Tree Arts Center is excited to see your artistic take on this now everyday medium! A pop-up exhibit and award reception will be held on April 30 at CTAC in Petoskey.

April 13: Namaste! Gentle instructor Tina Livingston, who was introduced to yoga after an injury, offers yoga basics at the Peninsula Community Library on Old Mission Peninsula for adults and teens of all abilities every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $7 per person.

April 14: Learn to fire glass at Fused Glass Classes at Twisted Fish Gallery in Elk Rapids. Debra Coburn will be teaching two classes on fused glass on April 14 and 21. Students will make two small dishes and two coasters during the classes. Please plan to attend both classes in order to complete your artwork. Preregistration is required. Call 231.264.0123 to register. The cost for both sessions is $110.

April 1-May 1: Support the Cherryland Humane Society fundraising Shoe Drive. The public is invited to participate in a shoe collection drive to raise funds for The Cherryland Humane Society. Donations of gently worn used and new shoes will be accepted. The amount of money raised is determined by the number of shoes collected. 2,500 pairs of shoes equal roughly $1,000. Drop off donations at The Cherryland Humane Society in Traverse City.
