Traditional after-school sports programs don’t usually include cross-country skiing, fly fishing and kayaking—but that’s what Harbor Springs School District students are up to these days, thanks to an emerging “Outdoor Adventure Series” that pairs youth with equipment and local experts to learn skills, make friends and get outside.

With the help of a grant from Project Unify, a branch of the Special Olympics, the district recently acquired a full classroom set of kid-sized XC skis. And plans are in the works for some paddling sessions indoors at the local pool.

Know of a Northern Michigan kid in 3rd to 7th grade who would enjoy exploring the outdoors with the “Outdoor Adventure Series” in Harbor Springs? The next session runs Wednesdays from April 13 to May 25 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Find all the details here.
