TRAVERSE CITY: The Traverse City Coast Guard City Committee, in conjunction with Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City and Carmike Cinemas, is planning a special screening of the Disney movie The Finest Hours on Friday, January 29 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cherry Blossom 14 Theater in Traverse City.

This special screening Traverse City event is open to the public with reserved seating for all Coast Guard personnel, their families, and invited guests. A display table featuring rescue gear, a banner, and uniformed Coast Guard personnel will be present. Be sure to stop by and shake hands with your local Coast Guard members.

Conditions permitting, a Coast Guard rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Frankfort will be in the parking lot of the theater for viewing and pictures.

The Finest Hours is based on the heroic United States Coast Guard rescue of February 1952 when members of the Coast Guard braved traitorous storms to rescue the crewmembers of the SS Pendleton. For more historical information, click here.

Traverse City is one of only 15 official Coast Guard Cities designated by the United States Congress and is home to Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City which serves Lake Michigan, Lake Superior and the northern portions of Lake Huron.
