ELK RAPIDS: Art Rapids! provides grants to support and enhance Northern Michigan art programs for adults and youth in the Elk Rapids art community. Programs may involve drama, music, dance, creative writing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, and other art disciplines.
Community groups, arts-minded citizens, teachers, schools, parent groups, and student groups are invited to submit applications for their Elk Rapids art programs. Applications are reviewed in the fall and spring each year.
The deadline for fall grant requests is November 1, 2015. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions by early December.
Art Rapids! awards approximately $4,000 in grants each year with funds supporting a variety of programs and projects such as:
- Community and school theatre performances
- Equipment and music for school music programs
- Art workshops and after-school programs
- Field trips for professional drama and musical performances
- Visiting artist programs
Established in 2006, Art Rapids! is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of arts-minded citizens. Its mission is to enhance and promote the arts and art education in the Elk Rapids area. Since its inception, more than $95,000 has been given in the form of grants, scholarships, performances and artist awards. Art Rapids! receives income from two primary sources: donations and the juried art fair held annually on the last Saturday of June.
