PETOSKEY: On Saturday, August 15, Crooked Tree Arts Center, Top of Michigan Trails Council and TART Trails, Inc. will present the fifth annual Chalk & Chocolate event as part of Petoskey’s Festival on the Bay. As part of this Northern Michigan event, the sidewalks of the Little Traverse Wheelway near Bayfront Park will showcase artists young and old during this beloved chalk art celebration.

The event is open to artists of all skill levels, from beginner to experienced chalk artists. The fee to participate is $10 per square for the Junior Division and $20 per square for artists 16 years and up. Ann Arbor Street Artist, David Zinn, is the featured artist and juror for the event. He’ll be onsite all morning, creating a special work for the festival. All are welcome to stop by and see him and the other artists in action.

Visitors can also purchase 3 tickets for $5 at the chocolate tasting tent to sample delicious confections, too; get some chocolate to go along with the chalk. Kilwins Chocolates, Coco Tree, and Palette Bistro will be providing the chocolate tasting from noon–4 pm. All proceeds benefit Crooked Tree Arts Center and Top of Michigan Trails Council.

Cash prizes will be awarded in both age groups. In the Junior Division, 3 individuals will be presented with $50 honorable mention awards. In the 16 years and up division, there are cash awards in two categories – Open Theme and Renaissance or Master’s Reproduction – the awards are as follows:

1st Place – Open Theme: $1,000

1st Place – Master’s Reproduction: $1,000

2nd Place – Open Theme: $500

3rd Place – Open Theme: $250

People’s Choice Award: $500 (Winner selected from all participants)

Celebrate Petoskey’s Festival on the Bay, walk along the Little Traverse Wheelway to see colorful chalk creations, and taste chocolate from local chocolatiers, during this popular summer event.
