BELLAIRE: Starcut Ciders, a division of Short’s Brewing Company that crafts hard cider made with fruits grown in Northern Michigan, announces statewide distribution this week. After a successful rollout in Northern Michigan late last year, Starcut Ciders will now be available on tap at bars, restaurants and taprooms throughout The Mitten State, beginning May 13-15.

First introduced at the Short’s Brewing Company brewpub in November 2014, Starcut Ciders was well-received by patrons and favorite styles were established. Initially distributed only in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Kalkaska, Antrim, Emmett, and Charlevoix counties, Starcut has increased production allowing for larger scale statewide distribution of their craft ciders.

Making ciders with fruit grown on Michigan farms has been a rewarding process, and according to Tony Hansen, Head Cider Maker (and Short’s Head Brewer), supporting local agriculture will continue to be at the helm of all Starcut operations. “One of my primary motivations to produce Starcut Ciders has always been to use the fruit from our local farms. I want to highlight Northern Michigan as a cider destination, support our neighboring farms, and help preserve Michigan’s agricultural landscape that so many of us love.”

Demand for the new product was apparent from the initial launch, but taking the last few months to experiment with original recipes, styles, and various fruits was paramount in developing the ciders that would be available to the state of Michigan. “I wanted to take the time to transform them into ciders that we feel will truly represent the modern Michigan cider that we have intended to create. We have our foundation laid, now we can start to experiment further.”

Starcut Ciders will be distributed statewide by Imperial Beverage, who has distributed Short’s beer for over a decade. The ciders will be available on tap at select locations beginning this week. Find Starcut Ciders near you using the Starcut Ciders locator.
