In May 2014, Traverse Magazine editor Jeff Smith and photographer Todd Zawistowski were out on Gull Island (a little island by Northport) writing the story that was published in the May 2015 issue of Traverse, Northern Michigan’s Magazine. While there, Jeff shot this short video of some of the gulls that inhabit this island. For years the tiny island has fascinated people of Northern Michigan and although there is NO access allowed, we encourage you to live vicariously through our camera lens.
Note: In order to protect the colony of gulls and especially their young, there is absolutely no trespassing allowed on the island.Â

I heard the Michigan Radio interview with Jeff Smith, of Traverse Magazine, on the Gulls of Gull Island this afternoon. I went to High School Prom with a Jeff Smith almost 39 years ago, and heard he was a Journalist and had moved up north. When I heard his voice, I was 98% sure it was the same guy! Looked him up and sure enough, it was. Hi Jeff! It’s Jan, happily married, with a beautiful daughter, Maria, who just went to Prom last Friday! How funny!
Very nice interview, by the way!
