Since 1858 the beautiful Grand Traverse Lighthouse on the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula has been guiding Great Lakes sailors to safety. Today, visitors walk through the restored keeper’s dwelling and climb the tower for a spectacular view of Lake Michigan, Cathead Bay, Grand Traverse Bay and the Manitou Passage. Visit the Fog Signal Building and tour the shipwreck exhibition, drive the remote operated vehicle, and hear the fog horn on Saturdays in June, July, and August.

Located 9 miles north of Northport, the lighthouse is within the Leelanau State Park. The park has 1,500 acres of beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline and woods, 55 rustic campsites, three cabins, 8.5 miles of hiking/skiing trails and a picnic area. Enjoy hiking, swimming, sunsets, and fishing in the park.
