Karin Slaughter is the #1 bestselling author of several crime novels, and will be the subject of a Northern Michigan book event sponsored by Traverse City National Writers Series.  Taking place on Thursday, June 26th at City Opera House, the evening’s event will be moderated by Traverse City resident Elizabeth Buzzelli, who has also authored several mystery novels. MyNorth Media would like to thank the National Writers Series for the following content.

Traverse City is the third stop on Karin Slaughter’s book tour for her newly released novel, Cop Town. A resident of Atlanta, Slaughter will make appearances in Phoenix and Dallas before heading to Traverse City.

Before publishing her first book, Blindsighted, in 2001, Slaughter owned and operated a sign business. Blindsighted became an international success and made the Crime Writers Association’s Dagger Award shortlist for “Best Thriller Debut.” Now, thirteen years later, Karin Slaughter has sold more than 30 million copies of her books, and is published in 32 languages.

Her most recent book, Cop Town, is an epic story of a city in the midst of seismic upheaval, a vicious murder, and a divided police force tasked with bringing a killer to justice.  Previous NWS guests and bestselling authors Michael Connelly and Gillian Flynn both give Slaughter’s Cop Town high praise:

“Stunning . . . In Karin Slaughter’s first stand-alone novel, she breaks new ground with this riveting story of two young police officers trying to stop a serial killer targeting cops. Her characters, plot, and pacing are unrivaled among thriller writers and if you haven’t yet read her, this is the moment.” — Michael Connelly

“Karin Slaughter is simply one of the best thriller writers working today, and Cop Town shows the author at the top of her game—relentless pacing, complex characters, and gritty realism, all set against the backdrop of a city on the edge. Slaughter’s eye for detail and truth is unmatched. . . . I’d follow her anywhere.” — Gillian Flynn

Slaughter will appear on stage with guest host Elizabeth Buzzelli. Buzzelli teaches creative writing at Northwestern Michigan College and at writers’ conferences around the country. Her novels include: Gift of Evil, Dead Dancing Women, Dead Floating Lovers, Dead Sleeping Shaman, and Dead Dogs and Englishmen.

Rob Coonrod will perform during the pre-event reception. Coonrod is a guitarist, singer/songwriter hailing from Interlochen, Michigan. He studied classical and jazz guitar at Interlochen Arts Academy and then at CalArts. Rob currently resides in Los Angeles.

Tickets start at $20. Doors open at 6 pm. Event starts at 7 pm. The event will include an onstage conversation, an audience Q&A, and a book signing. For more information or to purchase tickets visit CityOperaHouse.org.
