From Wednesday, April 23rd to Saturday the 26th, The Rotary Club of Traverse City will present a four-day run of its 72nd annual Rotary Show, an antic-filled talent and sketch comedy fundraiser at Traverse City’s Lars Hockstad Auditorium. The show will feature Rotarians in a variety of satirical sketches—during which the sacred cows of Northern Michigan politics and business are tactfully lampooned—and musical numbers, including a presentation by the Mighty Rotary Chorus.

The show is a primary fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Traverse City, with the money raised allocated to the Club’s Good Works Fund.  The Good Works Fund is meant to fill budget shortfalls for projects that address unmet needs in Northern Michigan, with previous funds being allotted to support educational, environmental and social works programs in the area.

The show had considerably modest beginnings: in 1942, Rotarians first produced the event as a means to entertain Northern Michigan residents seeking relief from the pressures that coincided with World War II.  That first production raised $500—which was used to install a water well.  The Rotary Show now raises between $60,000 and $70,000 annually to support local projects.

General admission tickets start at $10; pre-show beings at 7:30 pm, with the Mighty Rotary Chorus beginning at 8.
