BOYNE Community Appreciation Day – January 12, 2014

In appreciation of local patronage and support of Boyne resorts and operations, Boyne Highlands Resort and Boyne Mountain Resort are pleased to offer a full day of FREE skiing/snowboarding and more to residents of Charlevoix, Cheboygan and Emmet counties on Sunday, January 12.  FREE access to the 115 downhill trails at Boyne Highlands and Boyne Mountain, plus the parks, pipes and cross country trails is available 9am to 4:30pm.  Local residents can show their driver’s license or other form of ID with proof of residency at the resorts’ lift ticket windows to receive a FREE lift ticket for the day.  Ages 15 and under can ski/snowboard free during Community Appreciation Day if accompanied by an adult with proof of local residency.  Many other specials offered.  Visit for complete details.

49th Annual Moose Jaw Snowmobile Ride – Sat, Jan 18th

Ride from Harbor Springs to Larks Lake (approx. 30 miles) though beautiful wilderness and enjoy some of the best groomed trails in the Northern Michigan.  The ride culminates with a gathering at the famous Bean Pot at noon!  Moose Jaw Junction is right across the street. You can dine indoors or outside by warm fires. Pre-Registration at Harbor Springs skating rink 8:30 to 9:30 am. Ride leaves at 10:00 am SHARP! Take M119 to Harbor Springs and turn right on Hoyt street. Click for location.  Truck and trailer parking available but it fills up fast.

Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to assist with Drywall on our Pellston Build January 20th – January 23rd from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Women in the Wild: Cross Country Ski Clinic

Improve your classic nordic skiing technique and efficiency.  Attend the Jan 16th (10:30am – 12:30pm) clinic sponsored by the Outfitter. Start with drills and tips and then ski on the groomed trails at Birchwood Farms Golf and Country Club. Open to women of all ages who want to get outdoors and gain skills together. Previous cross country ski experience needed. Fee is $10 and equipment rentals are available. Meet at the clubhouse near the cart barn. Pre-registration required: call 231-526-2621.

Ice & Spice Festival at Bay Harbor

Join  the grand winter celebration of the year, the Bay Harbor Ice & Spice Festival which will be held January 17 & 18, 2014. Both professional and amateur carvers are welcomed as well as judges last year from across the United States. Professional Carvers begin their 10-block masterpieces on Friday, January 17 at 4pm and carve until 10pm. They begin again on Saturday at 10am and carve until 4pm. Truly a remarkable thing to witness blocks of ice turn into works of art! An amateur competition will also be on Saturday from 1pm – 4pm carving 1-block sculptures. Many winter activities including the Pro-Am Ice & Spice Chili Challenge, sponsored by the Bay Harbor Foundation with proceeds going to Manna Food Project Backpack for Kids Program. Sunshine Fire Entertainment will dazzle the audience. The Find Frosty contest will take place in all of the Village Merchant spaces as kids try and locate the snowman for a chance to win Apple products. Be sure to stay warm next to the ice fire pits and smores station. The event will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display on Saturday evening in the Village!

Family Dinner and a Movie Night

Friday nights throughout the winter, the SK8 Park will be showing movies and serving pizza to anyone who wishes to participate. It is free to watch the movie. Dinner is $5 per person. January Movie Schedule:

10th Annual Harbor Springs Area Chili Cook-Off

Amateurs and food-service professionals alike compete in the 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off for People’s Choice Awards and Cash Prizes!  This event is open to absolutely everyone so please participate and/or attend!  2 – 4pm at Stafford’s Pier Restaurant in Harbor Springs on Sunday, February 16, 2014.  Cash Bar. This year the Cook-Off partners with The Harbor Springs Food Pantry to help keep the shelves of food full, throughout the winter. Please bring non-perishable items for donation. “Wintervention” – President’s Day Weekend Festival

Downtown Harbor Springs will be alive with winter activities and events during President’s Day Weekend (Feb 15-17th).  Organized Snow-Shoeing, Community Bond fire & Hot Cocoa, Sledding, Ice Boats & Vintage Snowmobile Exhibits, Snow Sculpture Creations, Sled Dogs, and much more!  Save the date and look for more details to follow.
