Free lunchtime picnic at the Traverse City Opera House is back for its second season—live on stage, on television and online from City Opera House, downtown Traverse City, Michigan. Performed live on the main stage, Picnic at the Opera is noon to 1 pm, every Wednesday, from January 22 through February 26 (six weeks). Admission is FREE and guests are invited to bring a lunch. Donations are requested at the event to help sustain the nonprofit City Opera House.

Picnic at the Opera is a beautiful example of community collaboration. Miriam PicĂł returns as host of northern Michigan’s only live TV variety show.  Each one-hour show features Miriam’s beautiful music with David Chown on keyboards, special musical guests and other performers, interviews with visual artists, a poet’s corner, and a fashion show. WTCM Radio’s Jamie Kramer will co-host.

Artcenter Traverse City will feature local visual artists weekly. Award-winning author Michael Delp will return with his irreverent poetic commentary on life in Northern Michigan. This season he is joined by students from the National Writers Series’ Front Street Writers program. In addition, every episode features a fashion show with the hottest styles from downtown Traverse City merchants.

Don’t worry about finding a seat! This season’s Picnic at the Opera will seat over 150 patrons (cabaret style) in the historic 121-year auditorium. Additional guests will be seated in the balcony, so there is room from everyone. Bring a lunch, bring your friends and be part of the live TV audience! Every episode of Picnic at the Opera is also broadcast live on UpNorthTV cable channels 97 and 992 and streamed live on upnorthmedia.org. Recorded episodes will repeat each week on the cable channels and will be available on demand at the website.
