Northern Michigan Music: Interlochen’s Betty Who Sings “Somebody Loves You”

Another Interlochen prodigy is blowing up pop music. Australian American singer-songwriter Betty Who graduated from Northern Michigan’s Interlochen Center for the Arts just two years ago, and in the last month, has gone totally viral.

Betty Who was born Jessica Anne Newham. She lived in Sydney Australia until 2007 when she moved to the United States to attend the Interlochen Center for the Arts—the internationally renown arts academy located on Northern Michigan’s bucolic Green Lake.

Betty Who first debuted her single “Somebody Loves You” back in November 2012. But just last month, a man named Spencer Stout posted a YouTube video featuring the song in a flash mob gay marriage proposal in a Salt Lake City Home Depot. Currently at 10,357,847 views, the video has spread to the masses and has brought on a re-release of Betty Who’s debut EP “The Movement.”
