Traverse City Microbreweries: Brewery Terra Firma will be “raising a glass” to a celebrate their Grand Opening from 2 to 9pm this Sunday, September 8th, 2013. The family friendly event is free to attend and will be held at their taproom & farm located at 2959 Hartman Road, just south of the Grand Traverse Mall. There will be twelve beers on tap, complimentary BBQ and the Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums will be performing between 3 and 5pm.

Brewery Terra Firma opened its doors on July 2nd, 2013 with five beers on tap. Two months later, twelve of the eventual forty taps contain their own craft beer covering a wide range of ale styles. Next on the list is special release scheduled for the Grand Opening Celebration; the Soul Butter Triple IPA.

Accompanying the beer will be a complimentary BBQ courtesy of locally renowned Chef George Weir. Chef George will be using fruit wood from the brewery’s farm to slow roast and smoke the ribs, pulled pork & chicken which will be served with baked beans, coleslaw and bread. Sauces for the pork & chicken will be crafted featuring the brewery’s Ancho Chili Dutch Double Chocolate Porter and the Hoodwink Orange Marmalade Wheat.

The Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums will be performing on-site between 3 and 5pm. Over the years the Pipes & Drums have developed a close relationship with brew master John Niedermaier, so much they even have their own beer named after them; the Pipes & Drums Scotch Ale, a hearty high gravity beer brewed with peat-smoked distillers malt, which will be on tap during the celebration.

Brewery Terra Firma (Latin for Solid Earth) sits on ten acres of farmland that will generate ingredients used by the brewery to make its beers. Hops, herbs, fruits, vegetables and honey will be produced, using sustainable production methods, environmentally conscious waste management and innovative water and heat reclamation systems. Brewery Terra Firma will be a contributor to the local economy of Traverse City and is already becoming a model for the next level of ultra-efficient microbreweries. The goal of Brewery Terra Firma is to brew the best beer possible, and to respect the land, the community, their patrons and their employees while doing so. Terra Firma is the vision of brew master, John Niedermaier.
