Lake Leelanau-based company, The Redheads Inc., announced that their Northern Michigan local foods business has brought their popular Reheads hummus to 40 plus Kroger stores in southeast Michigan, as well as 45 additional Kroger stores to the greater Indianapolis, Indiana area. At the same time, the company is expanding its relationship to more Whole Foods stores across the metropolitan Detroit area.

“This is an exciting moment for The Redheads,” said Sarah Landry Ryder, the company’s president. “For many years, visitors from downstate and Indiana have asked us when they would be able to find their favorite flavor of The Redheads hummus near their homes, and I’m delighted that we are now so much more available for them.”

The company offers hummus in four ‘sassy’ flavors: Garlic, Pesto, Sundried Tomato and Cherry Chilpotle. The Redheads emphasis on healthy, natural ingredients including organic garbanzo beans, tahini, & tamari, in addition to fresh and local basil, results in exceptionally flavorful products. The company’s focus has always been to be a part of the sustainable cycle.

“Working with Kroger is a very big deal for us, well over doubling our volume in one stroke. For me, working out the details to be sure we can successfully scale up production has been a new and fascinating challenge.” said Sarah Landry Ryder. “And after all the planning and hiring additional employees, I am tremendously excited in getting this new phase underway.”

The Redheads is available in a variety of other stores around the state of Michigan, including Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Cadillac, Traverse City, Petoskey, and Harbor Springs.

Located in Lake Leelanau MI, The Redheads operates a growing wholesale business as well as The Redheads Café & Tasting Room where visitors can purchase all 15 products under The Redheads label.  Customers order award winning breakfast and lunch dishes that feature these outstanding products, as well as stop in for free samples of their full range of foods. The Café and Tasting Room, where all the hummus and products are made, is open Wednesday through Sunday—browse all their healthy goodies at
