Grow Benzie will be celebrating its fifth birthday at its own Farmers Market on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aside from all of the wonderful fruits and vegetables available from the season, there will be many other festivities to enjoy. Awesome Distraction will be playing for the entire four hours — a unique group of teenagers from Manistee who are receiving a great deal of acclaim in the area. They most recently performed at the Traverse City Film Festival 2013 and can be found online. Their Bluegrass style is very much in demand. Mixed in with the music will be face painting, storytelling, a beekeeper speaker, additional vendors, and a birthday celebration. Not to be missed.

Grow Benzie invites everyone in the community to attend, bring a blanket and picnic and enjoy sitting on the hill, listening to music and savoring wonderful, tasty treats. Garden Chef Britt Uecker and Accountant Chef Mary Weishaar will continue the battle of the chefs with savory offerings for everyone to taste and declare their favorite by voting. It could be a cliffhanger as the two chefs have been neck and neck in the summer competition.

What a great way to close out the season of fresh local foods with local folks enjoying local foods, music, and entertainment. Grow Benzie thanks everyone for their immense support over the past five years.
