The 2013 Lake Charlevoix Champagne Cruise raised more than $10,000 for Camp Quality Michigan, said Jeff Wellman, 2013 Lake Charlevoix Champagne Cruise partnership sponsor and owner of RE/MAX Boyne City.

The 2013 Lake Charlevoix Champagne Cruise hosted more than 125 guests during Boyne City's 2013 Boyne Thunder Poker Run on July 13. Ten local yachts rafted together for an afternoon afloat on Lake Charlevoix’s Horton Bay.

All proceeds from the 2013 Lake Charlevoix Champagne Cruise benefited Camp Quality Michigan, a year-round support program for families who have a child battling cancer. The organization currently serves 150 families in the state, said Kristyn Balog, executive director of Camp Quality Michigan.

Eighty-three high-performance boats participated in the 2013 Boyne Thunder Poker Run, roaring to five stops along a 150-mile route. After picking up playing cards in Northport, Elk Rapids, Harbor Springs and Petoskey, boaters collected their final cards in front of the 2013 Lake Charlevoix Champagne Cruise guests on Horton Bay. 2013 Boyne Thunder Poker Run participants later used the cards in a poker game, competing for prize money at the end of the night.

Nine local restaurants provided complimentary catering for the 2013 Lake Charlevoix Champagne Cruise, Wellman said.

2013 marked the Boyne Thunder Poker Run’s 10th anniversary. Over the years, the annual boating weekend has raised more than $220,000 for Camp Quality Michigan, said Hugh Conklin, Boyne Thunder Committee chairman and program manager for the Boyne City Main Street Program, which helps revitalize the Boyne City downtown area.

The 2013 Boyne Thunder Poker Run benefited the Boyne City Main Street Program, Camp Quality Michigan and Challenge Mountain, another Boyne City-based nonprofit that provides outdoor recreational programming for people with disabilities.

Total funds raised from the 2013 Boyne Thunder Poker Run will be announced during the week of July 22, Conklin said.
