Traverse City Buzz: Our marketing director, Rachel North has had the pleasure of working with the U.S. Coast Guard this spring and was invited to the change of command ceremony on Friday, June 7, 2013.

Change-of-command ceremonies are time-honored traditions deeply rooted in American military history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command in Traverse City from Cmdr. Joeseph Buzzella to Cmdr. Sean Cross. Here in Traverse City, the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station command changes every two years. The rate of command turnover is quite interesting for MyNorth Media staff since our founder and president, Deborah Wyatt Fellows had been at the helm since 1981. Our editors Jeff Smith and Lissa Edwards have written for Traverse Magazine for 19 and 25 years respectively and there are several staff who've worked 15 or more years here.

With that and her personal experiences in mind, Rachel North discovers the vital meaning in the ceremony for Traverse City in her blog.
