Traverse City Events: Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails announces the 19th annual Smart Commute Week from May 31st through June 7th. Join in the week’s festivities and reap the many benefits of smart commuting—save on gas and parking, increase your physical activity, and build camaraderie with others in the community—to name a few.
TART Trails challenges you to walk, bike, carpool, ride public transit, or try any creative form of 'smart' transportation. Rally your friends and co-workers to compete in the Smart Commute Challenge for the opportunity to win fabulous prizes. In addition to encouraging new smart commuters, the purpose of the week is to gather and celebrate the community’s year-round veteran smart commuters and infrastructure improvements that provide safer, connected, and accessible active transportation opportunities. As an additional way to give back to the community and support the trails, Michigan Blood, will donate $10 to TART Trails’ Smart Commute for each person that makes an appointment to donate blood Monday, June 10th through Wednesday, June 12th. Allison Beers, Community & Public Relations Coordinator for Michigan Blood, shared, "As the sole provider of blood for Munson Medical Center, we truly appreciate supporting the community.
