For Northern Michigan outdoors-enthusiasts and anglers, the North’s favorite fish-focused festival is nigh: from Wednesday, April 23rd to Sunday, April April 27th, visit Kalkaska for the 78th annual National Trout Festival. Between the Taste of Trout cook-off—featuring guest judge and Traverse Magazine editor Jeff Smith—the Trout King and Queen Coronation, the Grand Royal Parade and plenty of carnival amusements, you and your family will have your fill of fun and—should you fancy it—plenty of fried fish.
Near three potent trout rivers—the Manistee, Boardman and Rapid rivers—Kalkaska’s superior trout fishing has attracted anglers to Northern Michigan for generations; Ernest Hemingway even fished the Boardman while visiting Northern Michigan as a young man.
Visit NationalTroutFestival.com for a full line-up of events, and dozens of archival images from the festival’s past.
