Traverse City Events: The Dennos Museum Center at Traverse City's Northwestern Michigan College will present several workshops with local artists in relation to the exhibition, Modern Twist: Contemporary Japanese Bamboo Art. Saturday, March 9, 10am-1pm: Bamboo Sock Painting – $20 for members, $25 for non-members, plus $12 materials fee. Instructor Terry Tarnow will guide you through the process of dyeing socks to create colorful and unique gifts. Materials provided will include 2 pair of bamboo socks, dyes and dye-set, brushes, plastic sheets, and instructions. Please bring an apron, plastic bags, and color combination ideas. Registration required.

Terry Tarnow has been a fiber artist for 45 years. Her textile work concentrates on weaving, silk painting, and felting. Terry is also the Museum Store Manager at the Dennos Museum Center. Similarly decorated bamboo socks are available in the Museum Store.

Saturday, March 16, 1pm-5pm: Stitched Bowls & Baskets – $25 for members, $30 for non-members. Artist Maryanne Turovaara will demonstrate that colorful strips of fabric are all you need to transform ordinary white clothesline into decorative bowls, baskets and purses.  Learn to stitch rows of fabric-wrapped clothesline together using a zigzag stitch, and create the form you want as you add rows. Check materials list during registration. Registration required.
