Traverse City Events: Northwestern Michigan College will pay tribute to its enrolled and employed veterans with a series of events set for Veterans Day, Monday, November 12.
Morning
From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., veterans can enjoy a free breakfast at NMC's Northwoods Cafe in West Hall.
Following the breakfast, veterans will proceed from West Hall to the flagpoles west of the Tanis Building in the Walk of Honor. NMC students, faculty and staff will flank the sidewalk to honor the veterans.
From 9:10-9:20 a.m., local VFW Color Guard and Traverse City Central High School band will conduct a flag raising ceremony. The ceremony will also include a U.S. Coast Guard fly-over.
Afternoon
At noon, a campus-wide moment of silence will honor veterans who have died in the line of duty.
From 12:30-2:30 p.m., coffee and cake will be available for the entire campus community in West Hall, which will be decorated with thank you posters created by local elementary school students.
Records show that 167 veterans currently attend NMC. All events will occur rain or shine.
