Dec. 1 – NMC Jazz Bands— jazz big band, jazz lab band and jazz vocal ensemble— under the direction of Mike Hunter at 8 p.m. in Milliken Auditorium. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, NMC students free. Tickets available at the door.
The Jazz Lab Band and the NMC Big Band will perform music made famous by Stan Kenton, Count Basie and Thelonious Monk, while the vocal jazz ensemble will sing songs familiar to fans of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross and the New York Voices.
Such music is both a challenge and a way to keep the players and audiences involved, Hunter said.
“A lot of this material is well-known by both the ensembles and to the audiences,” said Hunter. “Tunes by Monk, Kenton, and Sonny Rollins are part of the jazz vocabulary."
