Traverse City: Farmers market harvest feasts will continue in plentitude this fall now that the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has extended the Wednesday Sara Hardy Downtown Farmers Market through October at the request of local vendors and farmers.
The Sara Hardy Downtown Farmers Market offers locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as meats, ?sh and locally made bread. The market is home to around 120 vendors, most of whom come from Northern Michigan's seven-county area that surrounds Traverse City.
Recently, Wednesday markets have run through September, while only Saturday markets have gone through October; however vendors have asked that the Wednesday market run through October, as well.
Despite 2012's warm March followed by April freezes, local vendors still have plenty of apples, squash, pumpkins and many other great products for sale at the farmers market–a result of farmers' extending their seasons through the use of hoop houses which allow for more volume in atypical produciton months, such as October.
Market times will remain the same as summer with Saturday markets startong at 7:30 a.m and Wednesday markets beginning at 8:00 a.m. Both days? markets end at noon.
