Traverse City Events: The historic City Opera House celebrates 120 years downtown in 2012–13, kicking off the anniversary season September 15 with comedian and Detroit native Lily Tomlin. It’s the third year for the Auto-Owners Insurance Performing Arts Series at the Opera House. This season offers diverse performances including jazz, dance, theater, comedy and family shows. Highlights include the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (October 13), Live at Birdland with drummer and jazz icon Tommy Igoe (October 26), and three holiday shows including The Sound of Christmas with Elisabeth von Trapp (December 5). Comedian and master dialectician Steve Solomon (January 18–19) and the upbeat Voca People (February 17) brighten the winter months, leading to the Monterey Jazz Festival with DeeDee Bridgewater in March 2013. Family shows, just $8, include The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by A. Wolf (November 24) and Breakin’ Back to School, Soul Street Dance Company (April 13).
