Northern Michigan Events: Race and then refuel at the 2012 Glen Arbor BBQ and Brew Fest and Solstice Half Marathon and 5k! Saturday, June 12, 2012, from 12 to 6 p.m., pair samples of Northern Michigan microbrews with Northern Michigan restaurant's barbecue for the perfect summer snack.

Not far from both Traverse City and the Sleeping Bear Dunes, the festival is located on the corner of M22 and Western Avenue in Glen Arbor, across from local haunt Art's Tavern. Admission is $15 per person, which includes two drink tickets. Additional beverage tickets may be purchased, 1 for $2 and 3 for $5, while barbecue samples will vary from vendor.

Though this is a celebration of Northern Michigan's microbreweries, it is also a very family friendly event! Children under the age of 12  receive free admission, and their drink tickets may be redeemed for non-alochohoic treats at Cherry Republic and Northwood Sodas.

Before you fill up on barbecue, participate in the Glen Arbor Solstice Half Marathon or 5K. Take the scenic half marathon route, and enjoy award-winning views off of the aptly named Inspiration Point. Or, set a personal record on the flat and fast 5k track through downtown Glen Arbor. Either way, you will be supporting a good cause—a portion of the proceeds from this event will go to the Glen Arbor Fire Department and the Glen Arbor Park Commission. The race begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, and online registration closes June 14, 2012, at midnight.
