Sleeping Bear Dunes Events: Four pairs of the federally endangered shorebird, the Piping Plover have made their new home in Glen Haven for the summer! The site is easily accessible so that visitors have a chance to view these rare birds. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park Service employees and volunteers will be on-site throughout the nesting season to answer visitor questions.
Due to the fragility of the Piping Plover, Sleeping Bear Dunes visitors are asked to respect the boundaries put in place by the park service, and to keep dogs on their leashes. In Glen Haven, pets are prohibited on the beach from the Maritime Museum all the way around Sleeping Bear Point to the stream outlet of North Bar Lake. Pets that are on leashes are allowed on the beach east of the Maritime Museum to the D.H. Day Campground.
