Sleeping Bear Dunes Events: Announcing the 2012 Port Oneida Run!
Saturday, August 4th, 2012 at the historic Charles Olsen Homestead
Packet Pick-Up 7:15 am
Actual Race Starting Time: 9a.m.
Registration is now open for the Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear Dunes 2012 Port Oneida "5K Barn to Barn Trail Run/Walk!" This 5K course follows the Bayview Trail in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, through the Port Oneida Rural Historic District, just thirty miles outside of Traverse City. It is the perfect way to see "one of the most prized historic landscapes in the country."
A kids "Schoolhouse Dash" is also offered; a little less than a half a mile, it covers the ground between the Charles Olsen Barn and the schoolhouse on the Bayview Trail. All of the proceeds generated by the run support the work of Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear Dunes, a non-profit partner of the National Park Service working to save the historic 19th century structures in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park.
This is the first year that the race will be held in August, as opposed to September. Additionally, the race will offer chip timing for the first time for time recording. The microfiber running caps are accurate, easy to wear, and free to the first hundred registrants.
Online registration is available at signmeup.com, where you can also find a detailed time schedule, directions to the Charles Olsen farmstead and information about awards and prizes!
