Traverse City Events: You might want to grab dinner at the Soul Hole—Traverse City's Cajun restaurant—before this one. The Louisiana-born blues guitarist and singer Tab Benoit is performing at the Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College on Saturday, March 17, at 8 pm.
Proclaimed American music icon and a part of Louisiana folklore and legend Tab Benoit is the real deal. Born and raised on the Louisiana bayou, this self-proclaimed “new kid from the old school” has been the standard bearer for a new generation of Cajun blues musicians – a traditionalist and an innovator at the same time, grafting elements of rock and soul to the indigenous sounds of the bayou.
“Tab Benoit is one of the premier roots musicians of our time,” says Gene Jenneman, Director of the Dennos Museum Center, “We are very pleased to have him on our concert season and we know the audience will be in for an unforgettable evening of live Cajun blues as Tab Benoit and his band return to the Milliken stage, this time on St. Patrick’s Day – a chance to put a little Cajun spice in the corned beef and cabbage!”
Tab will be touring with Adam Ross, Trey Landry, Corey Duplechin, and Chuck Went in support of his new CD Medicine. With the purchase of a ticket to this performance, concert goers are invited to visit the museum’s galleries one hour before the concert and attend a post-concert reception with the performers.
The Dennos concert season is made possible with support from the Robert T and Ruth Haidt Trust, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce, the Begonia Foundation with media support from WNMC 90.7, CMU Public Broadcasting and TV 29&8. The Dennos Museum Center is open daily 10 AM to 5 PM, Thursday’s until 8 PM and Sundays 1-5 PM. Admission is $6 adults, $4 for children and free to museum members.
