Northern Michigan Events: Tour de Tart 2011 Annual Benefit Bike Ride

Northern Michigan Events: Registration is now open for the 2011 annual Tour de Tart, a one-way bike ride on the TART and Leelanau trails from Traverse City to Suttons Bay on Friday, July 22nd. Participants will enjoy a fun evening of biking on trails that allow them to see parts of Leelanau County not reachable by road, stopping for snacks and drinks at various points along the trail and finally eating a delicious bayside meal at the Suttons Bay Marina. The Tour de Tart will conclude with a relaxing bus ride back to Traverse City.

Riders may start the 19-mile bike trip any time between 4:00 and 6:00 pm under the awning of EuroStop Cafe located at 8th St/Woodmere Ave. in Traverse City. The bike path will consist of twelve miles of paved trail and seven miles of unpaved trail (hard-packed, two-track). The flat course is suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

For residents of Suttons Bay who would like to participate, TART will be providing buses to go to the starting line in Traverse City. Buses will leave from the Suttons Bay Marina promptly at 4:00 pm.

Pre-registration is recommended and can be done online or by stopping by the TART office (415 S. Union St. in downtown Traverse City) or at local bike shops. Day of ride registration is also available from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. The cost for adults is $30 (prices increase on Friday) and $5 for kids.

Participation in this event is a great way to appreciate the outdoors in Northern Michigan with the whole family and all proceeds benefit TART Trails.
