Plenty of snow and a crowd of as many as 400 skiers promise to make the 35th annual White Pine Stampede Cross-Country Ski Race a fabulous event. Skiers will begin at the Mancelona High School and glide over some of the prettiest landscapes found in Northern Michigan. The White Pine Stampede winds up at either Schuss Mountain or Summit Village depending on the race length racers compete in.
This popular event, which has been attracting contestants of all abilities from all over Michigan since 1977, features three race lengths of 10 kilometers, 20 kilometers, and 40 kilometers.
Competitions include:
40-Kilometer Event (25 miles) previously the 50km
Join the thousands who have skied this event on professionally groomed trails, which wind through the most picturesque landscape of northwestern Lower Michigan. The race ends at Summit Village at Shanty Creek.
20-Kilometer Event
The 20-kilometer event (12 miles) takes skiers over rolling hills and across fields, concluding at Schuss Village at Shanty Creek.
10-Kilometer Timed Tour
Enjoy skiing the Roger Eschedor 10-kilometer time tour (6 miles), finishing at Schuss Village at Shanty Creek.
Cross country skiers ages 18 to over 64 are invited to participate, and awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age division for both men and women.
In addition, a number of local companies including National City, Mancelona Chamber of Commerce, Mancelona Rotary Club, Fitzpatrick Mfg. Co., MC Sports, Shorts Brewing Co., Glen’s Markets, Hammer Nutrition, Forton Graphics, and 9&10 News will be sponsoring the event with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Michigan/Detroit Medical Center.
