Whether you’re toasting your 30th anniversary or your first weekend together alone, these Northern Michigan getaways will kindle your passion for escapades in Bay Harbor, Harbor Springs and on Mackinac Island. We've laid out three fabulous weekends, from the posh to the quaint, including Northern Michigan hotels, restaurants and things to do.

The Posh

A city within a city, Bay Harbor is all about luxury. Stay at The Inn at Bay Harbor and enjoy couple’s massages, golf packages and sumptuous accommodations (FROM $262/NIGHT; 800-462-6963, INNATBAYHARBOR.COM). Start your
mornings at the Original Pancake House with fantasy breakfasts (ORIGINALPANCAKEHOUSE.COM) and have dinner on the patio overlooking the lake at Cava, Bay Harbor’s hottest new gourmet restaurant (LAKEANDHOWARD.COM, CLICK “CAVA”). From June 18 thru 20 check out the mega yachts during Bay Harbor’s 8th Annual In-Water Boat Show. From June 24 to 27 take to the streets during the Vintage Car & Boat Festival (BAYHARBOR.COM).

The Obvious

Songs have been written about it, movies have been shot on it, and couples everywhere flock to it for the ultimate in Victorian-style romance: Mackinac Island. Lie back in the park to feed one another sweets and watch the boats come in. Hike paths shrouded by trees (and duck behind a few). Pick a beach and skip rocks while the sun sets. Stay at The Island House and ask for their Romantic Retreat Package, which includes two nights, full breakfasts, dinners in the 1852 Grill Room, Grand Hotel buffet lunch, a private carriage ride, champagne and strawberries, round-trip ferry tickets, and, of course, fudge (FROM $710, 800-626-6304, THEISLANDHOUSE.COM).

The Quaint

Find adventure on Little Traverse Bay or an inland lake with a kayaking excursion by The Outfitter in Harbor Springs. The “backyard tours” explore area ecosystems while focusing on relaxation during a three-hour guided tour, with little to plenty of instruction ($95/PERSON, 231-526-2621, OUTFITTERHARBORSPRINGS.COM, CLICK “OUTFITTER OUTDOORS,” THEN “BACKYARD TOURS”). Later, toast your affections over the award-winning wine list at The New York Restaurant (231-526-1904, THENEWYORK.COM), and end your evening watching the sun set from the porch at The Veranda Bed & Breakfast on Main Street (FROM $192; 231-526-0202, HARBORSPRINGSVERANDA.COM). Plan your visit around June 25 to attend the 5th Annual Waterfront Wine Festival, with wine tasting, edibles from local restaurants and specialty stores, and live music (WATERFRONTWINE.ORG).
