Wow, I just received the Sleeping Bear Dunes download, and it blew me away. Sometimes we take for granted what’s in our own backyard.
During spring break this year my girls and I visited family in NYC. One day my cousins drove us three hours in heavy traffic (is there any other kind on Long Island?) to Montauk on the easternmost tip of Long Island. They assured us this was their favorite place on earth. We parked and walked through the gently rolling dunes past the signs warning us of deer ticks, carrier of Lyme disease. When we reached the end of the trail. just shy of the beach, we had an uninterrupted view of the Atlantic Ocean. It was lovely, but I was underwhelmed. Those Long Island dunes don’t hold a candle to our Sleeping Bear Dunes.
We’re so excited to host them in Northern Michigan next month. Needless to say a trip to the Sleeping Bear Dunes is at the top of our list of places to show them. They will be completely blown away by the sweeping dramatic vistas and the miles and miles of undeveloped shoreline.
And, bonus, we don’t have deer ticks. During our one hour walk on the dunes at Montauk we unsuspectingly carried home seven deer ticks!
We are so very lucky here in Northern Michigan.
